Alief Class of 72

Teacher Gallery

Many men and women devoted a great deal of energy and patience to try to help us get where we were going. Here is a place to remember them. Once in a while, you might say thank you, too. If the class decides that they want to, we'll make a page for each teacher, with a before and after photo, and publish the comments that classmates might send in. For now, Coach Hunter's page is an example to view. If you have photos of teachers, or know names that are missing, please send them to me by email.

THE OLD SCHOOL. For a number of years, this class attended the old "Dairy School." This was the 3rd school building in Alief, and dated from the 1930s. It was on the block bounded by 7th St on the north, High Star on the South, and a couple of lettered streets (E and F?) on the east and west.

Superintendent - Mr Albers. He was the superintendent of a grade 1-8 school. Grades were added each year beginning in about 1964 and the first class graduated in 1967.
Kindergarten - Mrs Bitner. The Class of 72 didn't have Kindergarten, but Mrs Bitner came shortly after, and was the first kindergarten teacher at Alief.
61 First Grade - 1960-1961 - Mrs Chambers

Here's a link to a photo of the entire 1961 faculty(113KB), courtesy of Curtis White.

62 Second Grade - 1961-1962 - Mrs Fonville
63 Third Grade - 1962-1963 - Mrs Lott (later the librarian)
64 Fourth Grade - 1963-1964 - Mrs Cynthia Youens

THE NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. They built a new school on High Star. It stands today as Cynthia Youens Elementary. Not only did they make a new building for us, but they put us into a situation where we had more than one teacher. The Principal was ?

THE NEW HIGH SCHOOL. Wow, they built a brand new school for us. Alief Jr-Sr High School. In 1971 they added on a wing on the north end of the building. From this point on, we're going to group all of the teachers together alphabetically, instead of by year.

The principal was Don Killough ...
