The Alief Bears got off to a good start Friday night with a 40-6 victory over the Lutheran Pioneers of Houston before a Lutheran home crowd at Jeppeson Junior Field. Fullback Billy Davis scored three times as the Bears scored all of their 40 points in the first half. It was the third quarter before Lutheran pushed across their lone score. Wingback Paul Hernandez scored first with a six-yard run. Then Davis caught a 24-yard pass from quarterback Ricky Klentzman and wingback David Henderson ran the points to make the first-quarter score 14-0. Henderson ran eight yards early in the second quarter for a touchdown, and Davis added two quick scores, both on one-yard runs. Tim Donegan, a wingback, ran 14 yards for the final Alief score. Lutheran's third-quarter score came when end Ray Campbell snared a pass from quarterback Robin Frazier on a play that went 10 yards. Linebacker Clifton Tigert turned in an impressive game on defense for Alief.

Below, the article is transcribed in difficult-to-read yellow text. The reason for this is to put the text where a search engine can find it. It's not really there to be read. We considered putting it in aninvisible white text, but thought that might anger the search engine gods, and opted for the school color.
